Two World Sequel Hitting Xbox and PC Market this Fall

Two Worlds Header

It looks like the open world RPG Two Worlds has spawned a sequel that’s slated for release this year. SouthPeak Games announced that Two Worlds: The Temptation will be available this fall for the Xbox 360 and PC and will continue the story started in the first Two Worlds game. It sounds like they’ll be totally overhauling the graphics engine in addition to making a host of coming of age type updates which include improved character animations and an updated combat system all of which will be greatly appreciated I’m sure by fans.

Obsidian & Sega’s Espionage RPG Alpha Protocol Announced

Alpha Protocol Header

Obsidian (famous for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II and Neverwinter Nights 2) and Sega announced they are teaming up to deliver a modern day espionage RPG titled Alpha Protocol. The story follows a character named Michael Thorton who for one reason or another is scuttled from the government agency he works for. Too bad for us, he’s the only person with knowledge of how to stop an impending global catastrophe! Players will apparently follow some sort of paragon/renegade model similar to Mass Effect where they make decisions that have some level of consequence on Michael Thorton’s character which ultimately affects the story.

Alpha Protocol is slated for release in 2009 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Check out the official press release below.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic Downloadable Content Available

blogimg_darkmessiah.jpg

Major Nelson dropped some knowledge about some new downloadable content on Xbox Live for Dark Messiah of Might and Magic: Elements. The download is priced at 400 Microsoft points and apparently unlocks some new items and the paladin and warlock class for the single player campaign.

Source: Major Nelson
Use these new weapons to crush your opponents. According to your character’s type, either Undead or Human, you can use exclusive powerful weapons such as bows, swords, or staffs. Also included, two new classes for the single player mode: Paladin He will subsequently use his powerful Charm and Shrinking spells to gain the upper hand. Warlock The Warlock will seek to weaken his enemies from a distance with his spells before moving in for the kill using his sword.

I’d rather see some expansion downloads for Dark Messiah’s multiplayer mode. Not that I own the game, but I was on the fence when the demo came out because I actually did enjoy spamming lightning bolts and heals in the game’s FPSesque multiplayer. However, I yawned through the single player portion of the demo and because of that I just couldn’t bring myself to make the purchase.

Tales of Vesperia to Support Xbox Live

Tales of Vesperia Header

According to a Microsoft press release about the Japanese release of Namco Bandai’s Tales of Vesperia it seems that the game will support Xbox Live in one way or another. It could mean downloadable content packs, online co-op, or maybe some sort of multiplayer versus mode much like Enchanted Arms. I would absolutely kill for a JRPG that supports co-op play over a network like Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network. With the popularity and support of online connectivity by the current generation of consoles, it’s only a matter of time before multiplayer support becomes somewhat commonplace in the console RPG genre.

Namco Bandai Confirms Two Tales Games for Xbox 360 and Wii

Tales of Vesperia Header

Namco Bandai officially announced that Tales of Vesperia will be released for the Xbox 360 and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World will be released for the Wii. Both titles in the Tales Series will be available by the end of 2008.

Obviously anytime RPG titles are announced for the Xbox 360 and Wii, it’s hard not to be excited. It seems like fans of the Tales series will appreciate the graphic engine upgrades that are being made to Tales of Vesperia along with some tweaking to the real-time battle system. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World’s story takes place two years after the Game Cube’s Tales of Symphonia, the sequel focuses on new characters, but the story will bring them across characters from the original cast.

Two Worlds Expansion Pack Piles on New Multiplayer Content

Two Worlds Header

SouthPeak is bringing Two Worlds fans two new downloadable expansions that add some multiplayer goodness to the game. Any Two Worlds fans out there? I have to admit, I was really pretty excited about this game based on what I heard about it’s multiplayer experience, but the demo failed to impress me. This expansion looks cool though, so it may require giving the game a second look. Check out the press release below for all the details.

Tales of Vesperia Confirmed for Xbox 360 U.S. Release

blogimg_talesofvesperia.jpg

Here is more great news for Xbox 360 owners, Tales of Vesperia has been confirmed for U.S. release, though no date has been set yet. From everything I have seen about this game so far, this looks like it will be a nice addition to the Tales universe. Yoshito Higuchi is the producer of the game and since he also worked on Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss there should be little to worry about. Take a look at the screens posted below to see beautiful landscapes, stunning visuals and the cell shaded characters.

Too Human Video and Fact Sheet Love from GDC

Too Human Header

Happy gaming news flows like water out of the 2008 Game Developers Conference (GDC) this year, not to mention videos. If this is news to you, you haven’t been to gametrailers.com recently. One of the RPG highlights for me has been Silicon Knight’s Too Human coverage

I’m impressed from what I’ve seen, but I’ll tell you straight up what’s got me the most excited, and that’s the cooperative multiplayer feature this game is sporting. An action oriented RPG, with up to 4 players coop, and the ability for players to drop in and out of play without stopping the game for everybody else? I truly hope other developers are taking notes. I’ve been enraged lately about what I feel is the xbox 360’s half baked multiplayer support in it’s games (when compared to similar PC titles anyway). RPGs are one of the worst genres to support multiplayer on consoles, but I feel like the problem extends to all console genres, including FPS titles, which have no excuse for not having complete pimped out multiplayer features. Anyway, I’ll probably save what’s left of this rant for a post some other time, but suffice it to say I’m excited for this game.

I’ve grabbed some of the new videos for your viewing pleasure, check them out lest you continue your existence woefully uninformed.
